I plan to put about 10-15 shrimps only in my 40l tank, is weekly 10-15% water change still required? Or can I just maybe change 10-15% every 2-3 weeks? I don't have many plants in this tank and only have a little moss in it.

If you are using active soil substrate with nitrogen content and other nutrients, and there are few plants in the tank, then it'll be a good idea to do regular water changes to keep the dissolved organic waste and nitrates in check (even with relatively light bio-loads).

A 10-20% water change for that tank is only 4-8 liters of water anyways, just a few scoops in and out of a bucket and it's done. Consider it like aquarium therapy.

Haha I don't mind the changing, but afraid shrimps die after the change... Then become aquarium disaster.lol

When to read on the water change in another thread earlier, I suppose what I done wrong in the past was just introduce the replacement water straight in. Didn't know others slowly drip the replacement water in. Think I will try that with my new tank, hopefully it will prevent deaths.

Well, most shrimps shouldn't be so sensitive that even a small 10%-20% water change kills them, that usually means there is something in the source water that adversely affect them, or the existing tank conditions are making them weak with low immunity so even with slight changes in water chemistry they cannot withstand it and die.

If that's the case, then using the slow drip method will help to make the changes gradual (or use R/O system and re-mineralize to your requirements).

I would understand if all those special techniques were done for very high-end or rare CRS shrimps which cost crazy $$$ and owners really cannot afford to lose them... but it'll be odd if you have to go through all that amount of extra work just for RCS shrimps, it seems abit like too much effort just to upkeep them.

It's still lifes we are talking about haha don't want to be judge for killing shrimps next time when I go to heaven.
its just that I become more paranoid after losing all 25 shrimps in my planted tank, so determined to get it right this time, because previously, every time I changed water, there was bound to be deaths.

Do you add conditioners and anti-chlorine agents to your water?
sometimes these could be the small factors, straight away from tap (could be a huge difference in temperature with your current tank temperature)

Normally i will add the necessary stuffs like anti-chlorine mixture and bio-bacterial mixture into aged water that i set aside for few days to ensure its "safer", then proceed with WC.

Speaking of which, my room's tall cube tank have not done a WC for 3-4 weeks!! time to do so this weekend...
