Switching on the motor when dry to test for a few seconds is okay... just don't let it run dry for longer than a few minutes to avoid the motor overheating.
I have a decommed Eheim 2217 idling at home for the past 2mths. Am a little concerned that if left idling too long the filter might kaput. Is it ok to do a quick dry run ( without filling the cannister with water)?.
3ft Tank. Eheim 2028. ADA soil. LIghting 2 X 39 T5 / pressurized Co2 @ 8hrs/day.
