    Hi

How do i tell the sex of the balloon rams? want to get a pair but looking at the pictures in the flora/fuana albums, i still cannot find a distinctive difference...both male and female looked equally colourful.

the female will have a pink/maganta belly. Look closely you should be able to tell them apart. Try to get male and female that have already paired in the tank of the lfs.

like what confusekid said, females will have a reddish/pinkish belly when they are ready to mate. This might be rather difficult as condition in LFS might not allow that.. so either you do not take the bet or look else where.

may I ask what species of rams?

other ways to ID, might be by size (50% accurate ), dorsal growth.. (also depending on the batches and age) either way is a risk..

I suggest you visit Toh farm behind Teo, who bred rams

Yah...i had such a hard time sexing them ...went to NA, spent around 20mins just staring at the tank and looked for them in pairs but cannot see, in the end never buy from NA coz quite a few of the rams were scratching themselves against the leaves and filter .

Went to Toa Payoh block 69 and found they had just brought in ballon rams today. Her rams looked much healthier but samller. Tried to look for pairs again and the pink belly but STILL cannot find (quite tiring coz been staring at rams the whole day )...in the end, got a pair based on gut feelings.

    1) There is this darker colour one that kept chasing the rest away (showing aggression etc). Gut feelings tells me he might be male coz more colourful and got anger. The black lines at the eyes are also darker then the others.

    2) A lighter coloured one that is doing nothing in the tank..ie, just hovering at a side and occasionally being chased away by the darker ones. A female?

I have picts attached here and would be great if you guys can give me some comments. Hope i made the right choice... Female foreground and male background?
