recently I purchase some rocks and slates and I want to test whether they are inert or not.
so I put them in a pail of water and then test the water parameters 24 hours later.
I tested PH, GH and TDS.

question: if the rocks are not inert, how long it takes to release "minerals" that will affect the water parameters?
is 24 hours enough? or should I wait another few more days to test again?

Some rocks release minerals faster while some slower, so its best to test over a period of time (ie. every day or two for a week) to track if there are any significant changes.

The best is to test based on your usual water change frequency... so if you do weekly water changes, then test if there are any parameter changes after soaking the rocks for a week. The main reason is because this will determine how much the parameters change (if they do) before you do a water change to re-balance it.
