nice attempt on the scape.
maybe you want to consider sticking oyama paper at the filter media area? a bit unsightly.
this is the first time I see someone putting so many media for a UGF.
Simple female Betta tank scape (new setup) . Her fins are a bit threshed cos of another bully female betta which have been promptly removed.

i think at it's current flow-rate, the UGF will not be effective as it need a higher flow/air driving the unit to work.

this UGF is an experiment following a japanese guy i watch on youtube . it seems to be able to work for longer term judging from his experience.
it is deceiving looking from the front but i have bio cubes as first layer to encourage flow .

Just a quick update , redone the 1 1/2 ft tank , added oyama paper black background and cover the undergravel filter .
I am happy that undergravel filter is still working well ! And Betta is growing into adult fish .
