2211 slowly leaking at the clips

Hi all, my Eheim canister filter failed over the weekend, and I need your advice on how to fix it.

My 2211 is slowly leaking at the metal clips. When I first noticed the leak, I changed the O-ring. Unfortunately, two slow leaks persist from the metal clips that fasten the head to the base.

I cleaned the impeller and surrounding area; the water is passing through the canister without obstruction when it is switched on.

Do you have any ideas of a possible cause for these slow leaks, and what I can try to remedy the issue?

Could be the clip was stretched ? Did you carry the filter by the head with water in it ? Just a wild guess .

if something is loose, maybe you can get those white soft tape that plumbers use, wrap round the mouth of the canister, press the unused portion inwards to make the fitting more tight. If it's a hairline crack... probably you can use silicone to mend it for the time being.. but both are short term remedies, it's time to change your filter!! I myself are also looking for a 2211.

Re: 2211 slowly leaking at the clips

Thanks for your advice. I suspect you are right as the water is leaking from the point that the clips touch the canister body. Do you know whether these clips can be replaced easily in SG? Or would it be possible to bend them back into shape?

If it bend , it has stretched . Try getting a new clip and get a new o ring seal thingy just as a precaution too , to save a return trip in case the new clip replacement doesnt work .

Re: 2211 slowly leaking at the clips

    Thanks everyone for offering advice.

    I fixed the filter by:

    - Applying vaseline to the o-ring area
    - Adding three rounds of white Teflon tape to the rim head
    - Carefully bending the clips so that they are tighter when attached. I used small pliers to shape the clips.

I've been running the repaired filter for a few days now and no leaks.

    Cheers everyone! Case closed.

Deeloke, glad to hear that your filter has stopped leaking! But 1 thing to note, Vaseline is petroleum based, thus it's neither o-ring safe nor fish-safe. Although it needs a long time to corrode plastic, but I think it's important to let you know. Vaseline getting into the water then to the fish also is not desirable too. You either need to get eheim super expensive small pack grease or you need to get food grade silicon-based grease. Usually those website will indicate that's it's safe for aquatic. But be warned, other place selling it is not cheap too, small tube size similar to those elephant brand bonding glue cost $12. But for fish safety, I think better to
use that. However, decision still depends on you.
