Quite a number of places sell them - I know Carrefour sells them.
Recently saw the analogue one on sale - 7.50 a piece - I think.
Hope that helps!

petmart, sam yick also do sell them
Frankly, the analogue timers offer me more timer combinations and so easy to set. Almost of them let me you set to 15mins at each click which is good enough for most purpose. Cheaper some more...Originally Posted by genes
There's one selling at Carrefore for $9.90 and even give a 2-way multi-plug for free. I am using 2 of those.
I once got a digital one (from Germany) and it only lets me set two range of times a day! And I had to fiddle with so many buttons and reading the manual before I get it right!![]()

I use mechanical or analor timer for 2 years now and so far it works fine for my requirement, setup is straight forward, more combination in 24 hrs, easy manual override and cheap too![]()
Mine is Theben and those cheap analog timers from Carrefore.
I have been using 2 digital timer for almost 7yrs.. both batteries are flat and the timer still works. I feel analog ones doesn't last or that's what happened to my other 2 analog timers. The digital one allows acurate timing, 24/7, same as the analog counterpart
TheBen timer is not digital. I was using them before and though reliable, they have the following disadvantages:
1. No switch to switch off or on permanently. Once you set the timer studs, the switch only allows you to toggle the studs. I.e. what used to be off setting, becomes on setting and what used to be on becomes off. If you want to permanently disable the timer so that the light remains on for 24hrs, you can't. (Yes, you don't want to have the lights on for 24hrs on a planted tank, but there are times when your maintenance crosses into the lights off period and it's quite irritating when the lights go off while you're doing maintenance.)
2. Does not have a built in battery. If you get a black out at your house you have to reset the clock on the timer. Not easy if your timer is deep within your cabinet. Darn irritating if you get frequent blackouts (e.g. PCB trips whenever lightning strikes nearby).
I've since switched to digital timers. You can get them at DIY/Hardware shops. The Home-Fix DIY shop chain has a decent range of timers. They have shops in Thomson Plaza, IMM, Ikea, Great World City (or Tanglin Mall, I always confuse the 2 malls).
If you are willing to spend, get one that allows you to set different timings on different days of the week.

I haven't used a digital timer since my last one. So I am not sure what the available features are for different brands. Here's my take on the above.Originally Posted by vinz
1. There's a over-ride switch on the analog timers to turn on the lights if it happens to be "off". Just remember to toggle it back when you are done with the maintenance.
2. This one is interesting. I think the analog ones should be better in this respect. Imagine the blackout period coincides with your timer-on period. When the power is restored, the digital one will not turn on the lights since it is now supposed to be lights-off period. But the analog one will and so giving the plants that dose of light they needed that day.
I think it's just personal preference whether analog or digital. I even hear that analog timers consume more power than digital ones.

1. For TheBen timer, that switch is not a bypass, but a toggle. I.e it only toggles the settings. So for example, you decide to start your maintenance at the off period, so you toggle the switch to turn the lights on. Now, say your maintenance crosses into the on (which has now been toggled to off) period, the lights will actually shut off instead of remaining on like in the case of a bypass. Quite irritating when you are standing on a step ladder with both hands in the tank...
2. I don't see it as a problem. If I were using a analog, I would reset the clock anyway and the plants will still not get any light if it happened to be lights off period during that time. If the plants were in the wild, they would probably not have gotten much light that day too, due to the storm. I'm not concern about the plants not getting their light for tha day... unless it happens consecutively for a few days and always starting from early in the light period. My tanks are never bio-overloaded, so I don't worry about overnight O2 deprivation due to lack of photosynthesis due to one day's black out.

I never use a digital one, So far the 3 Theben analog taht i am using are fine... the model that i am using is quite compact just like a plug adaptor (the timer clock goes around the plug), some other brand has the timer attached on top of plug area which is bulky.
guess it's really just personal preference whether analog or digital....
BTW what's the price range of a digital ones?
y934 got sell...
Went to carrefour and got something that looks very similar to the Theben one, the barcode puts TB 13 (TH124) Theben 24hrs timer. However, the front of the box is SOUND TECH and not Theben?. Cost S$22.90. Design is much better coz its less bulky and the toggle switch at the side definately feels much sturdier then the other cheaper ones. The digital ones they are selling at S$35.
