    Hi guys,

Haven't taken any fish pictures for quite some time. Just got a snapshot of one of these sitting in the tank in front of me and I thought I'll post it up as well...

This species have yet been named scientifically, but have been seen on our shores a few times. I got mine from C328.

Coloration seems lighter on this specimen due to the light colored substrate. Otherwise, the body markings are definitely more distinctive.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

Interesting species, looks alot like agassizii.

I think I still have an agassizii in one of the tanks. Haven't been checking on them for some time.

Good observation. Quite a lot of confusion on this species if you don't examine it in detail. Even cory fans like ourselves often get mixed up.

Corydoras agassizii usually have the fin spine and the first two dosal fin rays with a dark coloration/patch. The patch also extends slightly into the body most of the time. For C18. The first ray is usually free from the black coloration and most of the time, it's a whitish/transparent dorsal fin spine. The dark patch start from the first dorsal fin ray onwards and is variable. Also, the whole body of the Corydoras agassizii is tends to be more spotted and if there is a lateral line, it's very variable and doest not stretch across the body in most cases.

Unfortunately, this picture does not show the patches on the dorsal fin in good detail due to the color o the background. Shame. At least the dorsal fin spine is clearly not black.

Just for comparison, here's a shot of my agassizii.

Good observation Benny. BTW, I think I had a C18 for some time but I didn't realise it was a C-number. Didn't bother to ID it either.

Excellent profile shot, Rashid. Size could be slightly bigger for more impact and allow a more detailed observation.

Too bad nobody seems to seriously keep corydoras anymore.

Thanks for the compliment Benny, but I still have a long way to go with regards to photography.

I still have the original file but I have to search for it in my folders. Probably burned on some CD somewhere.

Serious cory keepers? Maybe one or two, numbers are dwindling. But rest assured I'll always have corys in my tanks. Besides, I buy them every now and then when I spot something odd or nice. Brought home some corys the other day.

Unfortunately my big armatus died of velvet during QT. I managed to save the rest of the new purchases and they're now in my main tank.

Wanted the "griseus" at C328 but I found the price a little steep. Probably next time.

Did some digging in my files and I found this image of what I thought was an aff. agassizii. I still don't know what it is.

Hard to tell from stress coloration. If the fish is settle down, it's probably easier.

Here's another shot of the C18...

    Curious little fella.

    looks rather under, Benny.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Then it's time to re-calibrate my screen. Trying to update to PhotoCal 2.7 and may have change some settings.

Simon, what does it look like on your screen?
