There's a thin variety of Vallis that spreads by runners, can be found in NA and the shop next to it. It's smaller leaved, but will also reach up to such a height if I'm not wrong. Can also try Cyperus helferi.

I'm wondering if there are any good and similar alternatives to the Vals I am currently using for my background. Mine's a 2x1x1 ft tank and the vals are growing up, across and down the front! When I first got them from NA, Mr Chan told me they would grow to 1.5ft, so I got them, but now...(see attached pic)
p.s. if possible, tell me where to get it cos I have been not quite in touch with LFS for some time... thanks!![]()

Vallisneria nana is a small, slower growing species...another one is Echinodorus angustifolia, I think there's some at EcoCulture.

Never heard of Vallisneria nana before. Is it available from Teo's?Originally Posted by budak

I got mine from NA NAture.

I also have some twisted vals, (corkscrew?) that grow a lot slower and shorter. Just that because of the slower growth, I may end up having to deal with potential algae issues. As of now, I'm very happy that there are no visible algae in the tank for quite some time already. Anyway, last weekend, I pulled out some of the vals which have spreaded towards the front of the tank, and replaced them with the corkscrew vals from another tank which I will be de-comissioning, see how it goes!![]()

Just my opinion, but I think your vals look quite stunning as a val forest, and it adds depth of your tank.Originally Posted by stocker
