    hi,

I just got myself a brood of these babies (approx. 15). Currently housing them in a 35 (w) x 25 (L) x 26 (h) tank with some windelov and tonnes of java moss. The tank is running w/o air pump/filter as it was before just a storage tank for moss. Would appreciate if anyone can share there experiences with these critters, and possibly advice on how i can create a better environment for them. Thanks!

Great to know that you can identify the little critters without any problems. Most folks don't know what this species are.

For a start, you need to run a filter for them. At least a sponge filter. Make sure there are loads of plants in there till the filter matures.

As these are small fishes (3 cm max), your current tank is enough for them and they will appreciate a thin later of fine substrate (river sand perhaps).

They are not fussy eaters and will take to processed food readily. So flakes and pellets are not a problem at all. But keep an eye on the water quality as they can be quite sensitive to bad water.

Do take note that due to their size, a lot of tank mates are not suitable for them. Especially bigger fishes.

    Cheers,

    hi benny,

thanks for the prompt reply. I currently have a thin layer of ADA amazonia substrate that has been around for a year. I will get a filter asap. You could be right about the tank mates. I had 10 housed in a 2.5 feeter with the likes of badis burmanicus; i had assume all would be fine considering that they have left the boraras merah and briggittae untouched. Unfortunately the number of sightings of the little fellas is decreasing in that tank. It was later on that through online sources that i found that these guys are reclusive in nature. The bigger fishes might not have killed them directy, but by stress.

    Hi piffu,

ADA Amazonia Aquasoil are more suitable as planted tank substrate. These bottom feeders do enjoy foraging in fine sand as much as worming through thick clumps of Java ferns.

The only larger tank mates I would put with them are corydoras (no more than 5 cm) or plecos (certain species only) and maybe some small tetras (no fin nippers/scale eaters).

But the most important thing is good clean water.

    Cheers,

    hi mick,

provision for warm temperatures is never a problem here in singapore . Average temperature for the tank is ard 28c , but might go up to 30 c in warmer months. Thanks anyway~

They are all over the place recently, including C328, Eco Culture, Wu Hu etc.

I think a school of 100 or 200 would be nice. I still remember the first time I saw them 3 years ago in Taipei. They had a 3 ft planted species tank and it was spectacular to see them swimming past you!!

Justin order the hastatus direct?? Eh, can I get like 10 from you after CNY? Or should I just hope that the pygmaeus at NA will still be around by then?...

I almost bought the Aspidoras pauciradiatus today when I was at Eco again... But after Azmi mentioned that they should still be around in a month's time... Heh heh... I will wait for my tank to get ready first...

Oh, btw, after observing them at Eco, think they DUN school mid-water... Hope they will mix well with hastatus or pygmaeus...
