    Hi! All,

What are the do's & dont's for keeping P. Denisonii? As these fishes are wild caught in India what are the steps to be followed before transferring them into a high-tech planted tank?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Saugata,
P.denisonii is a hardy fish, I think besides proper acclimatisation there is nothing else to do. If water parameters are good in the new tank, I think only thing is temperature. I have 6 of them in a tank and I was replanting every week, nothing happened.

Generally P Denissoni needs swimming space so dont place them into small a tank or over planted tank.

Thanks a ton for your reply. BTW, I would love to keep these fishes but many people have suggested that they are jumpers and one shouldn't keep them in open top tanks. Has anybody have had an experience of keeping them in open top tanks?

    Hi Saugata,
I've kept mine in open tanks with water filled all the way almost to the top and have not experience any jumpers yet. I think it's because there was no thread around. If they are not threatened, I don't think they will jump. It's the same case with hatchet fish.

    Hi! Michael,

Well what exactly the word "threatening" means out here? Will the PDs feel threatened if I do w/c and some trimming and replanting of plants? Frankly speaking I would love to keep them but am not sure what to do as they are jumpers.

My tank is heavily planted with inmates as Neons, Rummy Nose, Platys, Mollys, Rasbora, Clown loaches etc. The size is 4.5' x 2' x 20".

Threatened as in being chase by predatory fish. Water change is small problem. Try them, you will not regret. Lovely as they cruise along the tank.
