    Hi folks,

During a recent canoeing trip along a river in Rompin, I collected a few plant samples. Wonder if anyone of you might help me with their identification. Sorry I was not able to take photos of them in the wild as I did not have my camera then. I thought the crypt may be nurii, but then I may be wrong as there are a few species of crypt that look similar as far as i know.

    Thanks for your helps.

    /John

Are the 2 crypts from the same area? ie one is submersed, the other emersed? Rompin is in Pahang, so could the 2nd and 3rd pic be the Taman Negara nurii types, or a purpurea? The first one looks very bullated, maybe an affinis? 4th looks like rotala wallichi and 5th an emersed Eusteralis stellata.
    Regards

Thanks for your suggestions. I will follow your lead. But they were all found in the same area, and all submersed.

in that case the last one shouldn't be E.stellata.. the leaves are too broad and short. Maybe its another rotala sp....reminds me of rotundifolia but i cant see clearly from the small photo...even then it already looks different.

Oops sorry about the small photo. Here is a larger one. You may notice the hair grass and Utricularia entangled to the bunch.

Hmm, submersed hey. Looks a lot like some form of hygrophila actually. Are the mature leaves maroon/brown with new leaves green? I have rotundifolia in my tanks and the leaves are much shorter in proportion to the stems. Ah, but for all I know, I could be wrong. They grow different in varying environment, not to mention phenotypic differences specific to different localities.

Nice plants by the way. Grow them well!

No, the leaves do not have jagged edges. They are red underneath and green on top. Does not seem to be hygrophila as the stem is quite stiff... almost like emersed growth. But when I collected it, the water level was low and it was submersed. The fact that hair grass and Uticularia was growing together with it also indicates that it is not a emersed growth that was covered by a temporary rise in water level (which happened on the day after I collected the plant).
