Any idea what to do when the shrimp are berried and carrying eggs all the time but the eggs never hatch? I've got a good mix of males and females in pH7.3, kH 3 water at 27 degrees celcius.

    Ideas? is it the pH?

    PS: Macrobrachium malayanum

Lower the temperature to 19 degrees celscius and feed plenty of protein rich food
It's not just "Step1: Add Water, Step2: Add Fish" If everything else don't work, add plastic plants and fish

19?! Where'd you get a number like that? i'd be really shocked if local water temperatures could drop that low...

And i do feed them frozen bloodworms and live tubifex... though i don't see how that will affect anything since the eggs are already there. Just not hatching

How do you know the eggs are not hatched? Have you been seeing the eggs go bad? I do have cases where the pregnant shrimp dies and the eggs go bad.

Well.. i see females without eggs, then i see them with eggs and i see them without eggs again. And no babies. And i'm pretty sure this species doesn't require access to the sea to breed. Especially considering the size of the eggs.

What type of shrimp do you have? Also, do you keep them with any other tank mates?

Macrobrachium malayanum They're in a species tank so it's just them, driftwood and very thick moss.

It migh take some detective work to find out where the eggs are going. If you are able to follow the pregnant females try checking the driftwood and plants when you no longer see the eggs being carried. You will either find the tiny baby shrimp, dropped eggs or nothing (meaning consumed eggs) The eggs have to go somewhere, right? Good hunting and please let me know how it goes.

Usually takes 3 weeks for eggs to hatch in my experience.

A month for me... Added some ketapang leaves to the water. Can't do anything about the temperature though.
