    Hello reader....

I'm back to my noob character =) I hope that you won't mind that i kept on asking questions after questions.

Well, my tank now is really in a mess. So, i decided to change to ADA sand
I've soaked the sand in water. Is that the correct way to do?
I soak it because some sand do float up.

How many days should i keep it soaked? I'm using it on sunday.
    is it ok?

Hmmm.. I don't really know the properties of ADA sand. I only know that ADA sand is more 'power' than lapis sand. =)

reader, if you do have links which previous hobbyist asked, please paste it here for me to read up =)

    Alamak!
ADA soil don't need to soak!!!! It is actually soil being clumped into a ball shape... Over time, it will break down...

    So remove the water now....
    ADA soil don't float one...

Btw, you using ADA aquasoil or powersand?

Alamak... Powersand? Although I have no experience in using powersand, but I think also don't need to soak... Anyone to advice him here?

Scottworm.. simple.. do you have any white clumps in the sand you bought?? or is it allll just one colour of small round shape sand? Both of which you should NEVER soak before use.
If you soaked ADA sand.. its bad but not tooo bad..still can save..
But if you soaked powersand... well... i have no comments.

Yo friend... it is just a colour- brown.

Ah... i've found one site to read about it that tank seems to be like yours that time

By accident... i will go and unsoak the water now... will it spoil the ADA sand?

It will, but not by much. ADA Aquasoil is compressed clay/mud as I see it, so water will make it soft and vulnerable to breaking up prematurely.

If you can, tip the bucket into the tank slowly and let water + Aquasoil flow inside. You can't do this properly with an already-set-up tank though.

If you bought Powersand (you need to be clear on what you bought), it should be placed below your substrate. ADA Aquasoil does float, but only a few particular grains and not the whole stuff.

    Good luck.

if you can afford it, use POWER SAND SPECIAL at the bottom, otherwise, you can also use the other brands of base fertilizers like Dupla, Sera, Ferka, JBL etc.

There are differences when you use base fert and have plants like cryptocoryne, echinodorus etc.

Garden soil as base fert is a bad idea because usually they contain ammonia compounds. And you know what happens when ammonia gets into water right?

Can't help you on your other questions.

depending on your tank size, you can either use ADA Power Sand Special 6L or 18L. I think use the 18L if you have a 4-6ft tank. To achieve about 8cm of ada soil in an, eg. 4x2x2 tank, you need about 6-7 bags.
