What an amazing forum this is. I have just spent the most interesting and informative time going through several threads and posts.
I am a newbie to fish and to fish tanks but I intend to change all that in the future.
We have had 5 goldfish for about a year now, (please dont groan! lol) and I have just updtaed the tank to a Jebo R362kg, which is an ideal size for where we want to put it in the lounge room. When I got the tank home there were absolutely no instructions with it but I was sure I could work it out on my own. However, I am left confused over a couple of things and would like some advice if possible.
The internal filter system has three compartments to it. Two of the same size and one smaller one, which is where the water returns to the tank. On the first two compartments there was a sheet of white filter material and a flat piece of plastic, the size of the compartment, with slots in and also a bag each of ceramic discs. Does the filter material sit on top of the piece of plastic, or the other way round, and where do the ceramic discs go?
On the return compartment I had a little length of plastic tube, (about 3/4" dia and 1.1/2" long) and a clear funnel, (for water direction?) which pushes into it. (at least this is where I think it goes) This assembly in turn, I have pushed into a hole in the return compartment so that it sits in the water and allows the water to be directed around the tank. I have noticed that I get a loud slurping noise, like the kitchen sink emptying, when this is running, any idea why? I have also installed a Jebo water heater which I have set on 27DegC as I want to add other fish with the goldfish. Will the goldfish survive in the heated water and what other fish can I introduce to the tank? Any advice or help with this will be greatly appreciated as I dont want to add my fish until everything is right.

    Hi,

Have never seen the tank set you have, hence do not know how the filter look like, so I can only offer some general advice.

Generally, the first compartment of a filter should contain filter wool to trap all the waste. The second compartment would contain your bio media (in your case, the ceramic discs), same goes for the last compartment.

Some folks who keep fishes which produce more waste sometimes have a prefilter compartment by having bio-balls in their first compartment, to break down the larger pieces of fish waste, filter wool in the second and bio-media in the end.

Personally, I think there's no need for a prefilter in your case. So just stick to filter, bio media, bio media combination.

I do not know what the flat piece of plastic is... perhaps you can take a few photo of the filter so other readers here can help.

The slurping noise you're hearing is probably bad. My guess is air is being sucked into the filter, in the long run, this will cause the pump motor and/or the impeller to work hard than they should. See if the inlet of your filter is completely submerged, air shouldn't be allowed into the filter.

Hi bossteck, many thanks for taking the time to reply. I have since been to a stockist of the Jebo tanks and she explained in full how to set up the filter system. The ceramic discs sit under the filter material but on top of the flat plastic pieces I spoke of. It is all working beautifully now as the tank is so clear. Thank you once again.
