Keeping the above in a non-co2 1ft tank with 2 small fans that could bring down temp up to 27.3deg only. fans are on 24/7. as for the light i would on for 3 to 4 hours after i got back from work. will they thrive and grow? and is my light timing sufficient? (it is 18watts). Thank you

You might wish to increase the duration of the lights to 7-8 hours.

what i have been told by experts here is that you need to have a minimum light duration for the photosynthesis period, which is about 8 hours. I was told not to go below 7 hours a day as it might affect your plants. To control for algae, you can choose low wattage bulbs. there are also many other factors besides lights.

27.3deg is too high for moss...

Both flame moss and fissidens would require 26 degree and below to thrive. I transferred both from a chiller tank to a fan cooling co2 enriched tank and they turned brown in a couple of weeks.

Perhaps uorme99 can update us on how his moss doing in a non-chiller tank.

agree. I've almost no success with flame moss in a fan cooling co2 tank. they will need far cooler water. 26 degree is a reasonable guideline

Hi zenscape, just to update - i transfer my flame moss tied on wood to my 2ft tank because i find that in 1ft the lite is too close thus the flame moss burned out when it is growing up (but my US fissidens doing okey). now doing fine in my 2ft with fan at a temp of 25-27 deg. still in its growing stage, hope it would grow well.
