I knew Ian of kingfisher when he was operating a shop at old airport road. Nice chap. Sad to hear that he is closing down his current shop. Anyone know whether he is relocating or close for good?

I didn't go tonight. But I gave Ian a call.
He said he's going to 'call it a day' those were his exact words.

Btw, if you've been regular there, don't feel bad that you're only paying him a visit now to make your purchase, I felt the same way and told him I will feel like vulture if I go for the closing down sale, but the fact is, according to Ian, he will have to return his stock to his supplier at discounted rate anyway.

    I am quite sad actually

Gah?! Nooo! now my fish will never get their daphnia feedings! Why is it all the good shops close down and all the beng run shops that have no idea what they're doing spring up like BBA?

    Why?

Good shops need extra care, effort and time to maintain quality and upkeep the reputation. If there is no/little support, or if everyone is asking for cut throat discount, the good shop will either lower the quality (and become bad shop), or, close down.

It all translates to money and the shop owner, a human, needs a decent living and lifestyle too.

    Totally agree with lorba...
Which shop will you buy fish from? A shop that sells tetra for 40 cents but pack 100 pieces into a puny tank or B shop that sells tetra for 70 cents but in better living conditions...

Most will choose the first... That's reality... And shop B closes shop... And people questions why shop B closes... And complain the bad fishes of shop A...

From the perspective of a retailer, there aren't many shops that we can "compare notes" now.

Customers lose their choice, retailers like us lose players to move the industry and suppliers/wholesalers lose their business..lastly, think about Ian's heavy heart..

    That's the reality of busines

actually I prefer his outfit at Cassia Cresent, though abit inconvenient, I spent more nice moments there, fishing for wild fish and shrimps. Ian told me he wanted a more laid back approach to his business. He told me that his old customers often gave him their trimmings. There were more tanks of wild fish. A bit dusty but the environment somehow was much better than the one by the MRT.

I guess rent was a big factor. He moved into new premise which was very big, subsequently downsized. The renovations wasn't really properly done as the one at Cassia. As a shopper, it wasn't exactly very pleasant experience. Still I wish all the best in his businesses, hope he could return soon again.
    Cheers,
    Andrew

Had visited him often at the height of my planted tank hobby, it's a pity he is closing shop.

Besides that, some new comer thinking by selling cut throat price will able to make them winning bigger market share. Definetely that is a temporary victory for those joker.

We have to wait for the people here to mature.

Was there earlier, it looks like Ian's closing down permanently Anyway, i urge you guys to go down and help him clear the stock. ESPECIALLY the fish. I took all i could but some of them like Oscars and birchirs wouldn't fit in my tank.

I believe any man with the heart to say, "I'd advise you not to buy, it works but it's unreliable", deserves our help.

Not those &*&^%$#$%^&ing clowns who try to sell PLJed Arowana as "more majestic, can look down on other fish one!"

And think of the poor fish. I doubt they'll survive being returned to the farms. I took his sick discus. Don't know if the poor thing will survive.

Ian, i wish you well with whatever else life decides to throw your way
