Yes, you want to have beneficial bacteria growth. The bacteria is what will break down the ammonia and nitrites in your tank.Assuming temp (25C) and pH (6., do I still need to cycle the tank?

I have just set-up a new CRS tank two day ago for the first time. Plenty of moss and some downoi. When can I introduce the CRS? Assuming temp (25C) and pH (6., do I still need to cycle the tank?

Sometimes you are able to make new friends through kindness

think cycle for a week or so. To be safer, check for NO2 and NO3.
God will make a way, where there seems to be no way

Good luck with the downoi, mine got wiped clean by my shrimps.

I think you should cycle the tank for at 2-4 weeks...
Did you buy a fan? A chiller would be a better option but an expensive one...
Make sure ammonia and nitrites are zero before you release your CRS into your tank... Best to use test lits for these 02 parameters...
All the best in this wonderful hobby...![]()

thanks. its in the office and aircon on for 24/7. hehehhe

never never rush to add in your shrimps into your new tank, you'll end up having more casualties, get discouraged easily by all these. Give your tank some times to cycle. Like what most bro have advised, cycle it longer, if can afford the time, 2weeks or more is strongly encouraged.

Don't be too anxious to add the shrimps... I set up a shrimp tank about the same time as you and allowed the water to cycle for about a week and a half. Tested the water conditions to be suitable for crs, so happily dropped by Y618 to get a grade C crs (2 pcs) to try out.
Within a week, both to heaven... tested the water parameters again and found the ammonia and nitrate were at its highest. After some self questioning and research, found out that there might be a good chance that for new tanks, though water parameter may be or or even excellent initially, there would be a sudden spike in ammonia just before it reaches constant... best is to wait a month for the tank to truely cycle.
Guess time isn't on my side to show off the crs tank this chinese new year.

Can use the seeding method to speed up the cycling process. Just transfer some filter media from existing old tanks & maybe some water from the tank as well. Your new tank will most likely be cycled within a week.
I do that for my CRS tank with no issue.![]()

Yes, this is a great way to shorten the cycling time, I also did that for some of my 1 ft tanks. Depending on the size of the new tank, scoop water from existing tank to make up about 10-20% of new tank and also pick the portion of media which is not too dirty ....![]()

Is your CRS refering to crystal red shrimp or cherry red shrimp?

CRS is very sensitive, you might want to wait for 3 to 4 weeks

On one hand can show offbut on the other hand, I am very worried cause during visitation, my younger cousins will all crowd near the tank. This is CAT 1 situation for me.
