I was thinking of making cave from coconut shell, cover the shell surface with moss, though I do not now where to get the shell.
Alrighty guys... since we are always on the look out for Cheap, Fish-Friendly and easily available cave for out tanks and fish... i was thinking...
Epoxy Putty, the kind meant for crafts and fix-ups... 2 part resin putty that dries Rock Solid.. so you could essentially make a nice natural looking cave with it... i'm gonna go ahead try it... i just hope it isnt toxic.. even though it says that you can use it for underwater and aqarium purposes.. still gotta test it out... i know that most Acrylic paint is non-toxic and water proof.. so painting will not be a problem..
another idea
i don't know if these have been discovered yet.. but you know during Deepavali period.. certain indian house have those little Clay lamps that they pour oil into with a wick to burn the light... they cost literally Dirt Cheap.. and i've tested them... overturn one and push it into the gravel at an angle and you have an amazing Cave that looks cool and it's not bulky.. i'm sure the indians here know what i'm talking about.. they come in many sizes too!
just make sure you buy the new ones for the tanks... not the used ones... then you'd end up with an oily problem.
i'll take a picture for you guys soon.
If I were a fish, I'd BREED all Day!

i've tried the coconut shell as well.. used those they sell at pasar malams you know the white ones with the soft flesh... but i felt they were too big for my tank which is just 8 inch by 8 inch by 11 inch.

too big? I though that one is quite small, after cut to half. I wonder if it is too small for apisto
I've the coconut shells with moss on top. Realised that spiky moss doesn't look nice on them. Probably taiwan or java moss would look better. Also my apistos only like to go into the cave at night and when they net goes into the tank.
And here's a link to diy caves. Check it out.
