    Hello Guys ,

Planning to rescape my 4 Footer, thinking of changing the substrate to ADA Amazonia or Malaya .. which one is suitable for Asian Setup , to grow most of the plants like Tonina species, Crypts, HC, Pogostemon etc.

i know Amazonia gives a great dark look to the Tank, but is it suited ? since what i have read from the ADA site, ADA Malaya looks more suitable for most of the Asian Plants to grow.

What are your views on this ? both on ADA Amazonia and Malaya ? which one u suggest ?

    Hi Vraghu,
Actually I think it's a personal choice. Personally, I have never use malaya but I find amazonia black color more accomodating when you add rocks and wood. I've also enjoyed good growth using that substrate on the plants that you have mentioned.( point to note: my tank temperature is 27 degrees ). I dare venture, forget the amazonia is for amazon or malaya is for asia but choose what you think would be most pleasing to your eyes. That said, have fun.

    Cheerio..

Mike, actually, there is indeed difference between the three types of soil.
ADA Amazonian is the most nutrient packed and also the one with the most NH4 released among the three types.

ADA Africana can give the lowest pH based on some hobbyists feedback. Nutrients seem to be the lowest IIRC.

ADA Malaya is the middle of the two. According to some Malaysian chaps, best for low-tech tank.

Maybe Stan can confirm this. He will know better. STAN!

Have personnaly used Amazonia and Malaya for my setups before, there are differences between both but personally i would say that both work out for the plants that you have mentioned.

I think what would really be a deciding factor is which of the both do you find more pleasing on your eyes. Personally for me it would be Amazonia cause i feel its dark brown substrate tends to bring out the green more in my tanks.
