I'm using a 18W PL light from Dymax for my 1ft cube.
I need some help in getting a suitable light for my low-tech 1feet planted tank. I will be growing mosses and fissidens as well as some java ferns.
Is there any good brands or reccomendations of lightings?
Thanks.

I'm using a 18W PL light from Dymax for my 1ft cube.
To me, brand is not a concern as it will deteriorate/time. Moreover, use on a low tech tank.
Currently, I using a 9W energy saving, 8000K, E27 compact bulb lighting for my 1ft tank. Fyi, my tank is low-tech too. Planted with Moss, Fern, Nana and Crypt.
If I need to replace the bulb, I could easily get it from most of the hardware shop, supermarket or DIY shop. But only 8W, 6500K available with sufficient for 15-16L tank.![]()
Just staretd a small 1 feet tank.
Uses a 9W FL lighting and it seems to be doing its job.
Was previously having no light and it retards the growth a bit.
No CO2 just some tablet dosing (trial) and the Nana and mosses seems to be doing fine. Will update you 2 weeks later on the health.![]()
Reliable cos my 13W PL just died on me after 1 day. The tube, when fired up, turned pinkish red instead of white. So if the shop doesn't do an exchange for me, i will have to look for a reliable and good one..

prec, you might want to consider this type. Normal FL light and cost saving low wattage tube (U-shaped type). Can find this quite easily in lfs. I have used this light for coming to 4 mths and have switched it on for 24 hrs for the first 3 months' usage and it is still in perfect condition. I use this for my 1.5ft setup and my plants/mosses are growing well![]()

Thanks bro. I just got mine exchanged 1-for-1. If it fails again, then i'll switch over to Ocean Free's model.

have never tried that light so can't really review on it
however if you are looking to change to another lightset and want to keep to 13w, my recommendation is give dymax a try
i've had one(the older one out of my 2 sets) for slightly more than a year now and its doing great, and for the price i paid (<$20) i think its a decent buy (all things considered - looks, stand provided etc -wise)
its using a normal iron-core ballast but the good part is the ballast is located externally away from the main light casing, so in a way it helps reduce temperature problems with the tank
