    just a curiousity.

considering the amount of co2 I pump in, my tank should be fizzling like a 7-up.

however, I realise that I only see bubbles appear after like 6 hours of light.

after 9 hours of MH lighting,

KH is 2 or (1, test kit first drop blue, 2nd drop clear, 3rd yellow)

PH is 6.2 or lower (cos that's as low as the test kit).

if you can provide us more info on yr tank parameters it'll be useful, Bubbling from the plant doesn't exist in the nature. It happen in the tank due to Co2 Concentration in the water colume.

With Co2 concentrating the water , nutrients are aslo essential for the plant to photosynthesis . Are there enough nutrients for the plants to utilise.

MH shouldn't give any problem in your lighting. What kind of plants are you growing?
    Cheers!

raise the kh to around 4 or 5. this will prevent pH crashes and also in some ways help the plants to bubble faster. this was mentioned long long time ago in this forum.

Yup..raise the KH to avoid pH crashing due to too much CO2 injection. Are you using a diffuser, reactor or flipper? In my experience after using diffuser and then changing to external reactor, it takes quite sometime for the diffuser to actually saturate the tank with CO2 as compared to external reactor. Amano did say in his book that if the plants ain't bubbling after 1-2 hours of CO2 injection, you can increase the bubble rate..if the plants still does not bubble, the likely problem could be your filter or lighting. (Lighting in your case should not be a problem..MH sia..so rich [] )

    Results
Diffuser: takes 6 hrs before bubbling occurs (Note only one diffuser in one corner of the tank...can change the efficiency by placing more diffusers in different parts of the tank especially for large tanks)

External Reactor: takes only 1-2 hrs before bubbling occurs..after 6 hrs of lights on period..plants bubble like 7-up []

hmmmz i was looking more towards the nutrients side... i have tanks at 2-3 kh bubbling like mad too.. but must have enough liquid fert in water column... thats what i think lah... i may be wrong...

    funny
my plants usually don't bubble unless they're overgrown
my own feeling is it depends on the plants you're keeping

you can try a simple experiment
throw in 10 stalks of egeria densa and see how long the tank takes to bubble

More plant mass photosynthesising = more O2? It's a possibility...

ok: there's only one plant that bubbles. that's riccia. its almost directly under the MH.

the other plants that occasionally bubbles will be the lotus (from any leaf tears) and najas indica.

    http://tdsshard.foronlinegames.com/fish/

CO2 is bubbled CONSTANTLY at 6-8 hours night or day.
I have a ac fan blowing at surface during the "night"
temperature is 28, kept more or less constant with a heater.

about 1 hour before lights on, I stop the fan. so co2 will saturate the tank.

so unless it takes 6 hours to saturate the tank with o2...heh
