    Hi all,

I need advice as to how to culture phytoplankton, free floating unicellular algae.
I have read up several culture guides written by westerners and more or less understadnt the basics but need to find out where to get the local equivalents of some stuff:
-phytoplankton starter cultures (heard you can buy this locally at $3 per bottle or something?) can we get this from LFS? Would it be a cocktail of species or a single type?
-nutrients - microalgae grow - where can we get this, or similar blends of macro micro nutrients made specifically for phytoplankton?

If I wish to make my own nutrient blends, is it possible to use things like freshwater aquascaping type trace element fertillizers with self prepared nitrates phosphates potassium? And what are the guidelines to doing so? (heard must be more diluted)

Hope also to hear from experience of others who have done this before.

    thanks so much
    Lam

This link is available in the sticky marine link I've posted. Also, Aquamarin does sell Reef Nutrition Live Phyto Feast. Just give them a call before heading down there.
If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.

Mohamad Rohaizal is my name. If it's too hard, use BFG. I don't mind.

    Hi,
thanks for the help, I have actually seen that site already (looked it up from the sticky!) and its really great, but how do we get the microalgae grow locally? and the culture plate of phytoplankton?
anyway, i am assuming 'aquamarin' is local? will do a search for this LFS location, and stuff.
do keep the info coming in, would love to hear form local experience.
    thanks
