    Hi guys,

May i enquire which digital camera to recommend to take reasonable macro shots? I am looking at those cameras which can slip into my pocket. Budget not above $500.

Thanks so much. Am very new to photography.

More importantly, macro shots of what?

Most of the compact digital cameras have a macro function that gets you very close to the subject already.

I would suggest increasing your budget slightly to S$599 for more options.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

macro for fauna in the tank or plants?

$599.. ok got to save up. Any brands or models to recommend for $599. I recently got my hands on a casio z77 with 7.2mp, the macro not so good.

I just bought the Canon Powershot S5 IS Prosumer camera at $630 last week; after being poison by all the nice photo posted here.

I'm still exploring the various functions of the camera and the next thing will be to join all the expert here in their photo taking session and pick up some tricks from them...

I started with the idea of getting an entry level DSLR, but then decided to get a Prosumer range after doing more research at ClubSNAP. Hope that you can get a camera that really suit you needs and we can all come out for some interesting photo sessions soon. Cheers!

From my experience, Canon Powershots A600/700 series usually gives pretty decent macro, in some instances better than some third party DSLR macro lenses. The only thing is that you might need to place your camera a bit closer to the subject. But overall i am quite pleased with the result the camera can produce. They are probably within your budget too.

I do know a gentleman who took extremely good macros using PNS digital camera. He DIYed his own adapter using a binoculars lense. His nick is Stevewhy in Clubsnap and he organise free workshops and trips in my Community Club.

    Some of his works

His works had put many with pro gears to shame.

i tried out a stylish digital camera today. Its the sony T200. There is this function called Macro close up. Its quite good for a camera so small.
