IME, the Ocean Free root monster works very well.

The two plants for mine that have it (tiger lotus and Echinodorus bleheri) are growing very well, especially the E.bleheri, it's like sprouting giant sized leaves...

Oceanfree root monster are pretty good if you ask me especially for heavy root feeders like Echinodorus and Lotus....do bear in mind that as it strenghtens the roots, the plant in question may get rather big

I'm using Jaqno's (NEW Flora Stick Pro) so far. I also purchase the UP's (Root Fertilizer Sticks). Have anyone uses these fertilizers before and how are they compare to Ocean free's (root monster)? Thanks.

Hi Ana. I usd the UP brand fertilizer stick bought from Nature. I broke them into 2 pieces and insert them into the substrate. Unfortunately they soon dissolve into powder like form and everytime I uproot the plants, the powdery brown stuff come onto the surface and very soon I have BBA in the shape of balls growing on the substrate and amongst the glosso and very difficult to remove. Took a few weeks of siphoning near the substrate and painstaking removing the algae balls before it is under control. I got so tired of removing the algae that I started pushing them into the substrate with a chopstick instead of removing them. Additional fertilizer for the plants .

UP brand sticks work but I got some side effect out of it.

Not sure if the others had the same problem and how to control it.

The beauty of Root Monsters is they do you break into tiny bits or powder. Sometimes they come up together with the roots of large plants, but does not foul the water.

Just take note that there are two types of packaging:
    1) Loose form: Usually used during initial setup by mixing with substrate.
    2) Compact form: Looks like a little Casuarina fruit to be pushed into substrate near the plant. Usually used to boost plant growth after substrate gets less fertile.

avoid the loose form as they can be quite messy.

Anybwhere else other than Nature and C328 selling Root Monsters?
Are they cost effective? Compared to Horti sticks and other root tabs?

FYI, I heard from some veterans that the OxxxxFree root monster is actually a re-package of the pond-fertilizer of Aquaflora ( Aquatic plant nursery from Holland http://www.aquaflora.nl/plant.html), so it make me wonder whether we could find the similar type of fertilizer at the local plant nursery with cheaper price.
