Dymax hang on filters help

if i want to put ceramic rings into the dymax hang on ...do i leave the the existing filter there or take out and replace with ceramic rings only

what i do with all my hang on filters (i use atman) is to remove the "filter media" plastic sheets they provide with the filter and throw them away, then fill the cavity with proper filter media like floss and ceramic rings/biohome

so i still need a mechanical filter ? i already have a sponge covering the intake (suction) part of my hang on filter

it's up to you what to put inside the filter =) i chose to put floss (mechanical) and biohome/ceramic rings (bio), but you can choose to just put biofiltration
