Simon cannot be a snake skin. Snake skin Discus have more than 7 body stripe on the body (usually is 9 or 12). Common discus only have 7 strips including the one across the eye and the tail on the body.
I think these discus is commonly known as Red Turquoise. But the name given might vary. Some call them red cardnation, some call checkerboard etc.....
But Mok they are one group of young healthy discus. [] High fin and very round body. Good strain. Your friend got anymore??? Nowsday hardly heard of any home breeder for disucs already. [] Mostly are LH[] .

Sorry for my mistake. 7 bar "excluding" the one on the eye and tail are common (ie 9 bar ). Snake skin is 12~15 bar. As for the wild breed, it is always 9 bar lah []. Anyone got wild discus more than 9 bar pls let me know. I will like to take a picture of it & show it to Gan [] .

kunner, you mean they are Red Turquoise? Don't look red to me leh. Very confused now. Good to hear that my discus are doing fine. It's the first time i'm keeping discus. Was hesitant when i was offered the discus but it's very difficult to turn down a free offer. Actually, was kinda afraid that i might offend the owner if i turn him down. The breeder sold this batch of fries to some LFS the day after i collected them. Not sure if he has a new batch. I can try to get his phone number if you are really interested. He's a friend's friend.

Simon, the tefe are doing very well. I was there very early to grap the good one (got 2 pc with 85% spotted on it)[] if late others will get them. I prefer to get wild discus in this size, they will grow in your tank, use to your water and will be likely spwan when they turn adult. I have some good exprience with wild discus around this size. Even my male heckel I bought previously in this size grow up and pair with my leoparnd snake but so far all the spwan has failed to hatch. I am think mayb the heckel is too young.

Mok, I almost 95% sure that this belong to red tur as I use to have a pair b4. Their color is reddish brown when they are young and sometime when they grow up still remain the same. There will be some of them with their full pattern out and with a very red background color...then I have to congrat u of obtaining a master pic. In fact, there is no such thing as red discus in the wild, it is some of these brown strain in the wild display a stunning red like Icana red which closely related to their diet in the river they live in. So after so selective and cross breeding u will get a lot of red discus strain, like red tur, rose red etc[]

    hi guys,

can advise how to clam Discus in plant tank.
just bought wild heckel from Gan on Tuesday. first they hide behind Java fern. was happy to see them infront of tank when i reach home last night. but, when i throw in a cube of blood-worm and my green neon go for the feed; the heckel go wild & dash for cover. now they are hiding again.

mkoh, hope u know heckel is the most difficult strain among the all discus. It is more sentive than the rest. Heckel will take a longer time to suit itself into a new environment especially when your tank have a lot of hiding place. Just be more patient lah, they will evenutally come out hunting for food when they are hungry.[:]
