    Hello all,

glad that I found this forum, there's a lot of useful infomation around.

Going to start a planted 4' tank soon, but for now I'm still reading up, and making sure I have all the equipment before I start.

Have a 2' tank, but didnt turn out that well..now still fighting algae in it...

    Cheers !

    Welcome to the forum Zor!

You will find a wealth of information for planted tanks and more here.
If you get stumped after reading just ask!
Oh, you may want to master the 2 ft tank before embaking on the 4 ft though...

    Very warm welcome Zor.

I hold a different view as Celticfish, go ahead with the 4ft if you can afford the time and cost.

Larger tank tends to be more forgiving to the aquarist. But that's just my personal opinion.

Hmm..was thinking of working on my 2' first as well.

My 2' tank is quite near direct sunlight, and think thats what's causing the algae. Currently I just managed to get hold of 2x120mm computer fans, and intend to cool the tank down, plus create a shade for the tank. Been changing the water often, helps a bit, but not too much. Will go get some shrimps or SAE soon, when I have the time.

My 4' is now empty....for now.

I'm also newbie to shrimps haha...but in the end I got 3 SAEs, chose it because it kind of matches my school of black tetras, and I don't want the shrimps to spawn.

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum,

What shirmps do you intend to rear?

    Some shirmps breed like rabbits.

    Cheers

Ya, thats one reason why I did not want to get shrimps as well, since its a small 2' tank. The SAEs are great ! Cleared up my thread algae, but I still have the problem of the green water...sigh
