    hi ongtw,

for what size tank will you be using your co2 cylinder with? what is the co2 needs of the plant you intend to keep?

from what i was told, it is not really worth buying a small co2 tank because it will run out fast and topping it up can be a chore. it costs me $25 to fill up a tank (no matter the size). so maybe it would be better to invest in a bigger one if you have a big tank that is.

but good side is alumminum doesnt rust

    hi fred,

i'm not sure whether its aluminium or not. its green in colour and for that amount, you get a complete set from dymax. i intend to only use it for my 1 ft tank and probably around 1 bps?

what does a typical system cost? say maybe a 3L or a 5L complete set?

Shouldnt be aluminium , normal 2.5L aluminium tanks set us back at around 70-80, excluding the regulators.

    ic,

sorry guys, i want to know what's the difference between using a electric soleniod regulator and manual regulator?

so i suppose a typical set will cost around 200 bucks for a new set of about 2.5L?

    hi ong,

i think, correct me if im wrong, electric solenoid enables you to sync your co2 system to flow when your lights are turned on. only when electricity flows does your co2 flow and does not when it is not turned on (even when valve is open)

manual is all done by hand and is unable to sync, cheaper yes but down side is you have to manually turn the knob everytime to sync with your lights and if u forget to switch it off the concequences may be catastrophic. moreover your co2 input will be inconsistent because you have to constantly turn the knob to gauge so you co2 input may differ everytime.

electric is safer in mho. oh and look out for good deals at marketplace. $100 for a 5l co2 set sounds like a good deal to me. co2 sets dont die, they age like wine haha, in a way i guess.

    cheers,
    freddie

yup. co2 tanks and cost were high back in 2004, which is why it was called high tech at that time.

A normal set cost less than 150+ at most nowadays.

    hi guys,

thanks for the feedback. i've been browsing around the internet and found quite a few negative feedback about this dymax co2 set. the one with green bottle and manual regulator and etc etc in the package.

i'm not really not sure whether to get one. anyone here using it? else i'm just going to stick to DIY. then again i gotta change the mixture almost every week. it will finish every about 1 1/2 weeks.. sigh.. sian

thanks for the tip. can i just leave it on consistently? i've read that as long as i have enough water movement it should be ok. pls advice.

btw you got the 2L version? NA said it can last 6 months if i put it on 1bps.
