I've kept a freshwater mussel for about 6 mths. It came free in a bunch of C.Balanse. It attached itself on a piece of driftwood and grew a couple of cm while in the tank. I never fed it. I threw it away after worrying that it would foul the water if it died.

But they are really boring. It's like keeping a pet rock.

Ihave lots of freshwater mussels in my tank. I use them because they are benefitful in order to filter the water. It is not anything fun to watch since it has no motion but i randomly see them on the same place , they keep moving.

Saw these clams at Wu Hu (near Tiong Bahru Mkt) a while back and also at Qian Hu. But you might wanna do some research on these clams before introducing them to your aquarium. As far as I know from the LFS owners, these clams are not really effective in filtering the water.

Hi bro, i am not getting them to be my 100% filtering devices, i am getting them just to be a part of my tank.

plus little helpers to filter abit here and there in the tank. from what i find out from the net, these clams are filter feeders, filtering what they eat from the water that they live in and the Freshwater Clam is a living filter that helps keep aquarium water clear and clean. By removing uneaten food and detritus from the water column, the Freshwater Clam helps maintain water quality and lower nitrate levels.

    all this inform is taken from Aquariumfish.net ( http://www.aquariumfish.net/catalog_...resh_water.htm ) and Liveaquaria.com ( http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...42&pcatid=1642 )

    thanks for the concern

    regards
