Does aquaclay create a bacteria bloom after 2 years? I notice my shrimps have all died, even despite minimal disturbance. I have check for ammonia and nitrate spikes, pH change and temperature. All were in order, in fact my dwarf pencilfishes that were with the shrimps from the start have 3 new babies! So I am not sure what is causing the shrimps to die. I have not change my fert regime at all since the beginning, so it is a big question mark for me, only thing I can think of is a bacteria bloom or a pathogen is in the water.

The tank is up and about for two years already? How long have the dwarf shrimps been in there? Their time could simply be up. The lifespan for dwarf shrimps are generally about more or less a year (plus plus).

Bacteria bloom could just be due to the source of ammonia from dead/decomposing shrimps.

Actually this was a new batch of cherry shrimps. I had a huge colony of cherries at first, almost in the hundreds, then their number dwindled, I added tigers and CRS along the way too, including multi-coloured atias too. All died last week. My first batch of cherries died about last december.
