My aga manicore just had its first batch of fries i'm wondering if i should remove the male from the tank or just seperate the tank with something.

Any suggestion from the brothers here which would be a better idea? If the male is to be taken out it'll be housed with a pair of caca triple red. So i would prefer to house in the same tank as the female if possible but seperate the living quaters. Any suggestion on the things to use for the partition? The female does no seems to have a problem fending off the male and the male does not seems to notice the fries so no hostility.

congrats on your spawn i would recommend against keeping the male with the pair of cacas as they'll probably fight and one may die. a number of people do advocate removing the male from the tank after spawning, and i have had mixed experiences with the male in the tank, but overall i usually leave my male in. the worst that can happen is the female eats the eggs...but if you're saying that the female is able to fend the male off then you might be fine.

my latest experience is with a wild pair of Ap. agassizii 'tefe' wherein i left the male in the tank with 2 batches of fry. the male didn't disturb the fry and in fact helped the female fend off the dithers. i just fished out 35 from the first batch of fry (and left another 5 inside as they were too fast, so 40 in total) so it's quite evident not many or none of the fry were eaten. I am currently raising another brood with the male in the same tank. he's chasing the sparlking gouramis as i'm typining this and keeping them at the far end of the tank away from the fry. if he gets too close the female chases him and he stays away.

Congrats on your manicore's spawn. It's always exciting to see your pet fish spawned . Any pics to show your manicore?

As long as the female not too "kan jiong" with the presence of the male, i think it's ok to leave it.

oh okay thats what my male is doing too. guess i'll just leave it inside the tank. i only have otos inside anyway so not much trouble for the female. but i've seens threads that say once the female is ready to spawn again it'll try to eat the fries so as so attract the male or hte male might eat the fries to make the femlae mate again.

my female raised the fry for over a month, only after she felt that the fry were able to look after themselves, her yellow colouration started fading and she left them alone...a few days after that she bred again without eating her fry.

i guess it all boils down to how good a mum your female is. i got an exceptionally good mum that had her priorities right

It seems to me part of the dorsal fin ( towards the end) has been torn off.

You meant dented on the dorsal? You could try snipping of that defect and hopefully the fins regrow properly. But it's going to take some time.

And wild doesn't necessary always means good quality.

The dorsal might have been torn during a fight and didn't grow back well.
