Was sourcing for my 1FT light 18w, recommended by virbul who had successful grown HC with magnum III, so i went and get the same. After paying for the light, the LFS owner tested the light, and boxed it up.

Went home happy until i opened the box, from Magnum brand -> Sunsun brand ??!! Called the LFS and he said its the same ?? I told him the one on display seems to be in a better condition but he insisted its the same.

I felt like i have walked into a sim lim square, bought an ipod and got cheated with a china imitation ipod instead....

    Anyone experienced this ?

well. what happen to me is differnet..
i bought a 1x 36watt lighting.. the lfs uncle went in a room to take the lighting. came out with a box.. it wrote 55watt pl, thought he reused the box, so didn't bother much, went home took it out.. found that the casing wrote 55watt PL.. so now im not sure if mine is 36watt or 55watt.. gonna call that lfs up tomorrow.
though 55watt from that shop is cheaper than the 36watt..
the lfs i mentioned is what magic4life mentioned... i too, believe its NA too..

Sorry guys, but I think as buyers, we should be responsible as customers, always check before paying. That way, we minimize such problems.

On a side note, if any members wish to relate their story on any lfs, please be mindful with what you say incase of any legal implication.

I have the same 18W lightset as you, Sunsun brand (although i bought mine with my eyes wide open and specifically wanted that particular light). From what I can remember, Sunsun is the brand and Magnum III/Maqnum III (i can't make out that letter) is the model. it's a 36 cm 18W PL lightset than can fit over a 1ft tank if you push the legs in a little?

and i agree with Simon. the onus should be on the buyer to check before paying.

The problem is ive already checked, but ... he went into the storeroom and came out with the light in the box. Do i have to perform a secondary check that once he put into the box, i take it out, test the light at a neighbouring stall ? I dont think most of us will do that.

I believe in my case i have already done my due dilligence. I mean, if i go to a singtel store, tested a motorola handset. The customer service officer, puts the phone i check ,proceed to the counter and swap another china brand similar in design as the motorola... then I dont think the issue lies with me but an infrigement of buyer/seller relationship.

    Magic,
By the way, do not indicate LFS name, its one of AQ's policy.

Well, but its true, and i have wanted to tell what happened for a long time, but decided to hold it back.

However, it seems that it is not only me, this is happening to quite a number of people. i Feel that it must be highlighted to everyone.

    torque

You refer to after the test, the shop owner swap and give you another set which doesn't sound logical as a consumer who suffer in silence when he/she see it happening and yet choose to keep quiet.

We are talking about light sets, how can the owner secretly do a swap without the buyer taking notice of it infront of you is beyond me.

Even if the owner find an excuse that he has to get the box for you, it is only natural he put down the light set, go into his store to grab the box right? so strange.

Ermmm... always had high & good expectations for the LFS mentioned in this thread (That's why had been going down all the way from Punggol 21 via bus to buy stuffs from the LFS lately... & has intention to go again to get a new 1-feet light for my 1-feet tank... May reconsider again...)

Anyway, do hope the issues can be resolved in a nice manner...

I believe regardless of lfs, we should make it a point to check the product.

beetlejuice, no one mentioned the lfs name, please do not jump into the conclusion and assume it for it.

I don't think its NA. Each time I buy light from him. Mr Chan or his wife would open the box, test the light & write the purchase date on the reflector. After which he would give me the same box and lights. So far haven't experience what you bros describe .... In total, I've bought 4 sets of lights from him.

Let's not speculate about which LFS it is. If Torque wants to mention it, so be it.

Seems some people got bad service from NA. Well, for my own account, I like visiting NA, for its equipments and others. Same goes for C328.

    Cheers, Christophe

Thanks Simon for the kind reminder... Just to clarify, I did not jump into any conclusion (if one were to read the postings again, a LFS was indeed mentioned...) that the LFS which torque got his lighting was the one I had in mind & patronised...

Think it's quite common (at least on my part) that if the LFS one patronises had some issues/reviews (be it truth or rumours), he/she will be more careful & mindful the next time he/she steps into the LFS...

Besides, I'd checked my earlier posting, I did not explictly state/ mention
any LFS in particular also... So please do not get me wrong...

I think it is unfair to NA as torque didn't mentioned which LFS. I have been shopping with NA for sometimes and the old uncle and the owner are quite helpful actually ( though the old uncle looks very stern ).

Please do not speculate and guess which LFS torque is referring to. We all have our favorite LFS and we shouldn't impose our liking onto others.

I have heard of bad experiences from other members concerning a few of my favorite LFS and you should decide for yourself whether a LFS is good for yourself and not from a hearsay experience.
