    Fish ID anyone?

    This specimen is originated from Sumatera, around Jambi in exact. It was caught from a stream by a friend and ended up in my setup when he moved out. This is an omnivore, observed to eat quite a lot of leaf matter (free trim to my plants :icon_sad: ).

    I suspect this is of the barb family.

    My guess is PUNTIUS EUGRAMMUS (P. FASCIATUS) ...
    Common name: Stripped Barb

    Not too sure either...

    My guess would be Puntius lineatus. Looks similar to P. eugrammus, but less variation in stripe width.. in P. eugrammus the central stripe is wider than the rest.

    Indeed it resembles puntius lineatus in appearance. The home habitat is also right.

    Dedy, saw your other thread where you listed P. johorensis as one of your fishes. Is this the fish that you think is P. johorensis?

    Any chance of close up shots of the mouth, if possible showing the barbels?

    hey medicineman, do you collect fish from whatever's left of Java wilderness? next time I come to Jakarta must look you up
    why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

    @Quixotic,
    Be it Johorensis or lineatus, both resemble this fish.
    Lets see if I can take a better shot, it is very difficult to.

    @hwchoy,
    Ha ha... I'm not those much too adventurous kind. This fish happen to be a gift from a friend in Jambi. His hometown still has streams and rivers teeming with local fish. I have assorted rasboras and barbs from the guy. Normally these fish (mostly) never end up in stores.
