I have this moss, the bottom part AlwaYs rot due to insufficient light.
Cool temperature is also preferred.
A very very slow grower.

most mosses are not semi-aquatic, i.e. they will never adapt to being submerged full time. considering you got it from England, you shouldn't expect them to do well in our water temperature (even with a chiller).
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

i found moss in 5 degree waters.. all died in my 22degree tank.
Hi bbbpippen,
No i did not got it from overseas. I ordered a huge quantity from ebay. From my experience, this are not true aquatic moss, and will slowly but surely die off after some time. Beautiful it may be, but difficult is it to replicate its natural environment in our tanks..
Don't think our fish can survive at 5 degrees celsius, do they?
cheers,
(though i still think bioplast will still be able to do it...)
any picture of the moss in your tank now ?

hi all , these are pictures after 2weeks immersed.
still maintaining its form but the colouration is turning towards a dark shade of green.
leaves are thining which is said to be adapting to the submerged conditions by uncle pro at bioplast
sorry for the blurred pics, did my best with the camera. =D
hi, i have experienced with this kind of moss. I got it from my trip to Bontang Kalimantan 6 month ago. There are in everywhere in kalimantan (balikpapan-bontang), i ever saw one dead big wood cover with this moss. The last survivor of this moss in my tank got bad hair algae problem and than died after 3 month in my tank ;(.

Hi, this moss seems to be Tortula ruralis. It is absolutely NOT an aquatic moss and will not survive in water.
By the way the AcMagic sells on ebay so called "Star moss" and provide the picture of this moss as Tortula ruralis. But they send another moss under that name - Hyophila involuta. Here is the picture of that moss in my tank:

Kokon, it does look superficially like the real tortula ruralis but not even an expert can tell for sure with just those photos. The real Tortula or Syntrichia ruralis would have long hair points on each of the leaves which are not apparent in the photos. Many mosses have similar appearances without using a microscope, so what Narodnaya saw in kalimantan was probably something else altogether. In any case even from the pictures of the moss in the aquarium it is apparent that the leaves are adapting to submerged conditions by growing very small. In the end it will not make a good aquarium moss even if it survives.
