Saw some hermits with blue legs in Pasir Ris farm. i'm no marine expert so don't ask me which species they belong to.![]()
Got a 5plan 1ft small tank. wanna start up a Nano with a few hermits and few Red/cleaner/sexy shrimp.
Tank setup: Prizm Hangon skimmer, LED blue light as my main light. water from a mature marine tank.
Question:
- Is a 1ft tank feasible for a few shrimps and hermit? target small hermit only.
- Any Hermit and Shrimp I should avoid? too big, rival?
- Prizm skimmer alone for filtration OK (no place for HOB filter)
- where to find small hermit (rough price?), been to a number of marine LFS, mostly selling fishes, but no small hermit.

1) yes 1feet tank is alright for that amount of lifestock.
2) no hard rule for hermits but do mind that hermits grow. so when they outgrow their shells, they will mob or rob your snails of theirs. so something to keep in retrospect.
3) yes, one prizm is okay. but weekly water changes is necessary. and you can consider getting prizm's own surface skimmer to keep your water surface from forming those scum
4) try marinelife. avoid the blue legged hermits tho. read that they are quite aggressive.
in closing, welcome to reef-keeping.
Thanks, anyway this not my vrigin run on Marine tank. Used to have 2ft and 2ft cube until I shifted. I brought my 2ft cube to office and share maintenance load with a few of my College.
I realised that I enjoy watching Shrimps and hermits more than Corals & fishes. I have 2 Red Shimp and 2 hermit. The hermits are actually hitch hiker in my LR, with black white stripped shell & leg too. They are able 5cent coin size, Kept for a few months didn't grow bigger then 20c coin, even I supply them many shells.
