Shouldn't be harmful as it is freshwater. And the contact with water is only such a short period.
For my planted tank, I used staples for the moss wall. And the hundreds of staples are rusting in the background. Rust has iron which is good for plants too. Some aquarists, like Tom Barr, even put in iron filings.

how can it be ? ? take note that iron is inorganic matter .... and it cannot be utilized by plants for nutrients . the one should add is organic iron in the form of tablets or capules
wah... so scientific(i am also not a science person
). who else can share about freshfish's theory?
and keep hearing about iron being good for plants? what about shrimps?
If iron is inorganic and can't be utilized by plants, aren't the gulu Tom Barr is doing something xx by adding iron filings, which is mentioned by another hobbyist?
Anyone can verify the 2 mentions, that is iron is inorganic and can't be utilized by plants and Tom Barr adding iron filings?
Just wanted some facts to get things right.
