Duckweeds duckweeds... I suggest![]()
To Love & To Forgive...
Duckweed hard to clean, and it also stuck to surface skimmer
Frogbit root is too long, it might be good in some cases, mine endup entangle on driftwood. By the way yamato shrimps will eat the root and end up killing it
Left with Salvina![]()
for nitrate if you dont mind the long roots as shadow mentioned.. i vote for frogbit. Otherwise salvina.. duckweed is out for me.. too messy and irritating.
no to duckweeds, it's a hassle when they get a lot.
Salvina would be nice, not too big
I vote for frogbit. Tried all of them but end up throwing both salvinia and duckweed. Very irritating and messy, have to clean up quite often as they reproduce very fast. Frogbit easier to manage and I just cut off the root when over growth. Not sure which one have the best ability to absorb nitrate but frogbit does the job well enough.
sigh, the question arise because the duck weed are getting very messy! But they seems to lower the water temperature, kinda felt the diff between my two 2 feet tanks. Think will give the salvinia and frogbit a shot! anyone in yishun? haha![]()
I prefer frogbits too as duckweed really gets too messy to handle.
In addition to floaters, include Hornwort as well. They grow fast soaking excess nutrients.

Juggler's tanks
I prefer frogbits too. The long roots are good hiding place for fishes too. Some fishes nip the roots, I've got a tank with short roots and still doing fine. They don't die because of their roots got nipped. Duckweed is out for me. Very hard to clean and get rid of later.

hmm sounds like everyone had problems with the mess haha. frogbit's roots seems a little long for a 2 feet tank isnt it
It really depends. In one of my tanks the frogbits' roots are almost a feet long, whereas in another tank they are only around 5cm long. Most probably got nibbled off by some tetras in the second tank.
That happen to mine also, the root at my shrimp tank can grow up to 1.5 feet long, planted tank are only 5-6cm. I just cut off the long root once or twice a month, not as hassle as duckweed and salvinia.
