If the female can't swallow him they will spawn.
Out of curiosity, was the female or male raised at a higher average temperature?
I have a problem with a "pair" of alexandri.
They are hatched from the same peat but one month in between.
So I have a farily large 2 mo old female and a small 1 mo male.
Will it workout - I guess the male will in a few months time will grow larger at least relatively speaking. Or do you think they can spawn while the male is still small? This cannot be the first time this happened...

Sweden had a really bad summer.
But the female probably had a warmer upp-bringing

I put them together, almost lost the male in the process since he jumped out while waiting to be transferred. I found him in a pretty dried-up condition. But he survived the ordeal, coloured up too and the female is happy with the company.
And at least I get some eggs - how fertile they are - only the future will tell.
I guess I am lucky that the older/larger one is the female - otherwise I guess it would be another sad killie story to tell...

Update:
They now seem to be a happy couple and big mama is producing more eggs than my 2 Notho foerschi females or my 3 Simp suzarti females. Funny how luck sometimes change.
