That's great news Tyrone. We lost the adults from a commercial import in 2004. They didn't breed either but the male was beautiful.
I've got amieti fry! I've got amieti fry! I've got amieti fry!
If I seem overly excited it is because I am. The last time I had these fish back in 2002 I never so much as saw an egg. Now I have fry! Thanks to the BKA's Helen and Ian!
For those who may want to know the sordid details. The fish were spawned over long fibre peat moss at a barmy 16--17°C. (Yes, 17°C. I'm sure the betting folks would of put money on the fish being dead at 17°C rather than actually spawning.) The moss was pulled and stuffed into a plastic shopping bag and sat on my lab desk for several weeks until last night I noticed it under the various papers and thought "why not wet it and see..." I never saw any eggs in the moss before wetting.
