    Hi all,

I'm not sure if this has been asked before but I came across this website while Googling for some info on a discussion going on in the Badis group on Yahoo!.

The discussion was about finding a suitable fry food to take the hassle out of hatching BBS. One of the members spoke about Mike Reed's fry foods. See link below:

Has anyone used Mike's No BS Fry Food? If yes, do share some information as I'm beginning to find it a little interesting.

No, never used them as I have never felt the need.

My personal feeling was that Mike is 90% hyperbole and 10% substance. [As proof, note that he carries that ultimate line of fishy "snake oils," the Marc Weiss products!]

Newly-hatched killies often need to have something wiggly to trigger the snapping reflex that gets feeding started.

I have always felt that bbs or vinegar eels did that best.

Once they associate the appearance and taste with something small and orange, nearly all killifish babies will take the dehydrated (dead) decapped Artemia cysts sold by brinshrimpdirect o/e. That is a great, nutritious first dry food.

I have gotten by on getting them to start feeding by putting a drop of Liquifry No 1 on a small wad of Java moss, and getting a bloom of infusoria to start. The next step is hard, tho.

They seem to ignore the decapped eggs if they never have eaten the live nauplii, so some initial bbs are still best, IMHO.

Search the killietalk archives, for I believe the subject has been discussed a lot, there.

Discussed quite a bit on KT but apparently none posted up the analysis of the food. I did see a comment by Tyrone however. There's both people for and against it.

Another thing that caught my attention was another item called Golden Pearls, manufactured by BrineShrimpDirect. I think we have this here in SG? Ron, any idea if your micro-granulate food is of this brand?

    JY,

I share the same sentiments as Wright with regards to first food for frys, that they will only feed on something moving in the water.

Like Wright, I'd usually prepare the fry tub a week before I hatch them, using Lquifry 1 to start a culture of infusoria.

IMO, it is hard or impossible to get frys to eat prepared food, and hence the danger of the uneaten stuff fouling up the water.

    Cheers,

    Kenny
