    Hi seniors,
Was wondering around near my residential area when realised there are many shop selling different lightings. I was still wondering if I should get 4x2x30w Fl light or just a powerful MH light.

Went in one of the shop to check the price for MH light and was shock to find that it is a lot cheaper then most of you guys had stated in the forum.
250w going for RM$180 and 400w going for about RM200. It will be a lot cheaper for me to use it than using those FL lights!

However, due to the huge price difference, I can't help but wonder if it is really genuine MH lights. Anyway I could identify them?

From observation and what the lady had told me,
    1) this lights are made in China,
    2) this lights are for wall mounting
    3) the bulb seems blue initially when it lighten up and spectrum slightly yellowish.
    4) it will take about 3 minutes for it be fully lighted and to produce visible white light.
    Any comments?
    Cheers and Regards,
    Billy Cheong

    you are right
the *cough* reason *cough* why commercially available aquarium MHs are so expensive are due to marketing hype etc and that they are supposedly better than the normal MH for plants
    next is the shape
you might have noticed aquarium MHs look a lot nicer than the standard ones
worth getting imo, if you don't mind the colour and shape
as for the bulbs, you can always change them to one that's better
just make sure you get the correct ballast
aquarium MHs are usually 75 or 150w

'supposed' to be better means the light spectrum of the aquarium MH bulbs are meant to be tailored to optimise growth of the plants in the tank
in actual practice this translates to very little more than normal MH bulbs
go ahead and hit the household MHs
    i did

    Billy,
My MH lights are sourced from a non LFS too. It's quite big but not that ugly and if you want you can drop by for a look see. It's those pendent type. The one that you enquired are household or industrial type?

If possible get 2X150W or 3X70W light and you can get the 6500K tubes from here in S'pore. Normally the MH lights come with 5200K which explains the yellowish light.
    Cheers!!

    Hi
Sorry for borrowing your thread. How do we go about ordering MH and what are the things that should be there eg e-ballast, wattage, colour etc as well as indicative prices. Since we are not buying from a lfs, the lighting guy will need the full specs from us.

    Tks,

When I went shopping for my MH lights, I just asked for MH lighting, hanging type. It should come in a full set. BTW, Normal MH dun come with E-ballast.
    Cheers!!
