Try searching/looking on aquabid and ebay for sponges. There is a seller there who makes them esp. for killi and betta tanks. $10 with shipping for 5. Fits perfectly in a 2.5 with mop. I can't remeber his name.
Hi
I'm trying to find good, rectangular, 5 to 7 gallon, preferably glass, tanks with lids for my killies. I know they have got to be out there, but I'm having a terrible time finding them. I find the bowfront minibowkits and the standard 10 everywhere but nothing in the rectangle in a 5 or 7 gallon version. I found a 2.5 at petsmart, but it looked so small that a sponge filter and mop looked like it would completely fill it!
Anybody know a good outlet, online aquarium manufacturer who produces these?

5.5G tanks are rare and fairly expensive in the US. Unfortunately, they are an ideal size for killifish, where we need a number of tanks to separate species or sexes.
You can expect to pay about 50% more for them than for a 10G tank, since they are not made in such large volume. Hoods cover glass and adequate lamps are also harder for 5s than for 10s.
Your local fish store can special order them for you, but expect to pay about US$15 for a bare tank without cover glass or hood. On-line merchants avoid them because individual packaging and shipping costs would eat you alive.
I get many of mine by haunting the thrift shops and grabbing every one I see, even leakers. Small tanks are way easier to fix than big ones, I find.

We have many of them on this side.
But you are right. They price them about the same as 10gal.
