My previous tank with "Spiky" mosses - both on the wood and backdrop.

I am currently in the process of planning a 200L+ tank with lots of wood covered in moss I want it to look very natural and as if it were a scene out of a river whether it were in Asia, S America, wherever.
My question is what moss would you consider to be the most natural?
I want it to be a nice shade of green and give a quite compact but not to neat look.
Cheers.

Cheers Freddy nice pic, I actually got it down to either spiky or peacock i've grow peacock before and was very pleased with it and seemed to be a quick grower, both spiky and peacock be very similar, true?
I like the moss in this amano tank any idea what it is? looks like an un-weeping weeping moss?

Steven,
I think Amano was using Singapore Moss (Vesicularia dubyana) in that tank.
It's kind of subjective which is the best moss to use in a planted tank. If you ask me, any moss that is grown well will look natural in a tank. Actually, I like to show you all a relatively uncommon moss in my tank. It looks like Java Moss but the strands are much finer. I didn't think much of this moss when I got it a couple of months ago but now, I'm thinking of setting up a tank just for it. Unfortunately, my computer crashed so I can't show you all the pictures. The images are still there but I can't get the damn machine to work.
By the way, you're right about Spiky and Peacock Moss. They are one and the same.

Hi Steven,
I thought I would share a picture of how moss can adhere to driftwood and look natural. I'm not sure the species.
Same moss

all moss are beautifull depending on how you mix it with surounding scape/plants![]()
if you are looking for compact but not to neat, you can try Singapore moss or spiky moss.
just wondering, how do you get those moss green from one end to the other end? i just got my spiky moss and one end is light green, the other end is slightly darkish brown green........

Cheers guys, thats a lovely moss you got there Dennis, just the type of look i am thinking of.
I've gone for the peacock/spiky moss and singapore, i'll also use some of the weeping moss i have in my current tank to.
I know weeping moss may not fit with the idea of a natural looking moss. But the weeping i have currently growing isn't fully weeping just gently arching, and should fit in nicely.
Jason just give your moss a bit of time, there very easy to grow and your moss should soon colour up and look good.
