    Hi, folks,

It's the DNA project again. We are grateful to many of you for your help but we are still short on a few mosses. We still need:

3 samples of Christmas Moss (Vesicularia montagnei)
6 samples of Weeping Moss (Vesicularia ferriei) and
8 samples of Erect Moss (Vesicularia reticulata)

I know it isn't fair to ask you all to keep sending the mosses for free. I discussed the problem with Chishio Hidaka (the Japanese girl who's doing the project as her thesis for her master's degree), Professor Benito Tan and the owners of Bioplast fish shop a few weeks ago and this is our proposal:

Let's trade. Send me a sample of any of the 3 mosses listed above, name the moss you want in return and I'll get it from Bioplast fish shop for you. Bioplast has quite a variety of the aquarium mosses. If you have been searching high and low for mosses like Zipper Moss (Fissidens zippelianus), Fountain Moss (Fissidens fontanus), Fissidens nobilis, Flame Moss (Taxiphyllum sp), Mini-Java (Taxiphyllum sp), Plagiominium sp, Mini-Pellia (Riccardia sp) etc, don't miss this opportunity to own the moss of your dreams .

    This is my address:

    Loh Kwek Leong
    Block 104 Towner Road
    #08-324
    Singapore 322104

If you have the mosses we want but you prefer to sell them to us instead, let me know and we'll work out something. I can remit the money to you through paypal if that's convenient to you. Or I can send cash in an envelope but that's kind of risky.

    Please help us. Thank you.

    Hi Loh,

I had the above 3 mosses you mention. I am quite sure the Christmas Moss and Weeping Moss I own is the right one.
For the Erect moss, I had just bought it last two week and I had a lot of stock left in my hand at the moment. I am not so sure whether they are the real one as the form is abit different from what I had seen in your website.

If is OK for you I can arrange the mail to be send out on Monday. I am from Penang, Malaysia and based on experience it will take exactly one week to reach your place.
I will be very much grateful if you can give me a small patch of Mini-Java, Plagiominium sp or Fissidens Nobilis to breed in my tank.

Monday would be fine with me, Chris. Are you going to send all 3 species? If you are, please be sure to label them. Also, please send a generous amount of each. With many of the samples we received the last time, there weren't enough moss for Chishio to work on.

I'll send the 3 mosses to you as soon as I can to the same address. Did you receive the moss I sent the last time?

Nikhil, just let me know the address and I'll send the mosses there. But first, you have to tell me which is the moss you want? If you don't already have the Plagiominium sp, I would recommend you take this one. It's a lovely moss and still pretty rare.

We're desperately short on Erect Moss. If you know anyone else who might have some, please let them know of our offer. Thank you.

    Hi Loh,

I will send you 3 type of mosses and they will be labeled.

I will send large quantity of the Erect Moss . For the Christmas Moss I had two samples, which I suspect they are same species but grow in different form due to lighting conditions. I only had limited quantity for the one which I am very sure is Christmas moss as I just tie it on wood couple of weeks ago.

I receive the Stringy Moss you send out last time. They are growing very well in my tank. Thanks.

    Hi Loh,

I've got some Weeping Moss i could send you from Germany. I could send it on Monday next week, or what day do you recommend? How long does the shipping take?

Maybe you could send me a bit of the plagonium sp.

I dont know how expensive the mosses in singapore are, but i have 4US$ left from my trip to the US. Maybe I can add that to the moss and u might be able to get me some Mini-Pellia or Mini-Java as well.

I hope we can find an agreement, I'd be very grateful.

    Hi, Phil,

Any day of the week would be fine. If packed properly, moss can easily stay alive in an envelope for 2 weeks or more. If you have never sent moss to another country, please take a look at how I do it here.

Please send a generous amount of your Weeping Moss and I'll send you the 3 you want in return. Actually, it should be a one-to-one trade but I have the Mini-Pellia and Mini-Java in my tanks so I wouldn't mind giving some of each to you. As for the Plagonium sp, I will have to get it from Bioplast, of course.

    Hi KL,

I have started a thread on iah.in lets hope we get some good response, as i am aware of people having them, including Madan but he is gone sailing the sea for now. So we will have to wait for someone there to volunteer to send some. I took the liberty of cut pasting the first mail of this thread. Hope you do not mind.

As for what i will want, i think ill go with the Plagiominium sp and if you dont mind sending me any of the Fissidens. Glasgow Address will be fine.

Thanks for spreading the message to IAH, Nikhil. I hope your post will generate a better response than the one I sent a couple of months ago. Then, the response to my plea for help was miserable. In fact, I didn't get a single response at all. I asked Madan for help but he said his mosses were hopelessly mixed up in his tanks.

I'll send you the Plagiominium sp and probably, Fissidens zippelianus. Please let me have your mailing address through private messaging.

    Hi KL,

The response this time seems to be better if not great i must say. The guys are planning on sending the stuff through Ben of aquaspotworld.com, they say he will be sson in Singapore and he will either post them from there to you or will drop by whatever he deems convenient. The guys seem to have mostly christmas moss with them so, i am guessing that is what you will be getting largely.

My Erect moss is already on the way to you.

    Regards

Thanks for offering to help Livio, I appreciate it very much. I still need Erect Moss desperately. So far, I've only managed to obtain one sample of this moss and it came from Armin in Poland. Do you think anyone in Brazil has Erect Moss?

    Hi,
Livio and/or his friends got Erect moss about 2 years ago. It came from me at this time. Originally it came from Singapore but I can't remember the exact person who gave it to me anymore. It already made problems and started to turn brown in my tanks.

    Regards

Thanks for the info, Robert. I hope the guys in Brazil has better luck with the Erect Moss than most of us did. Over here in Singapore, the moss has gone extinct.

I have just a little sample, and it came to me labeled as "erect", not erect - I am not sure if it was from the same place that the others had came.

As soon as I can I will send some to you

    Regards,

    Livio,

I'm not sure I understand your post but if what you have is really Erect Moss, I would suggest you take really good care of it. The Erect has become a very precious moss - it's very hard to find anyone who still has it in his tanks.

Loh how is the project going?

I may be able to get some erect moss from Portugal not 100% sure. The person is on www.planetinverts.com and wanted to trade mosses I believe.

    Dear Andrew,

Last time I heard from Chishio, her project is almost completed. She does not need any more mosses. As far as I know, all the laboratory work has been completed. She's now in the process of putting the final touches to the report.

I appreciate your offer to help very much the same though. You're a generous person, Andrew Anytime you need mosses from Singapore, just let me know and I'll try my best to get it for you.
