this is my first real planted tank ever , after much much waiting , i have setup my tank , took me around 2-3 days as i went around to get all the plants .

here the first day setup ... with 2 dw ...

one tied with flame moss , the other still bare not sure what to tie on . please ignore the floating hornworts and the charcoal piece in the middle . >.<

i know i have alot to learn and improve on , so i hope you all can help / teach me what kind of liquid ferts would be good for

    the plants

any comments or advise appreciated !

    specs :

    55 litre tank

plants : Cyperus helferi , sagataria subulata , hairgrass , us fissiden tied on dw . 2 other plants which im not sure of names . and 3 marimo moss balls floating ( to be added soon )

    Co2 @ 2bps

    lighting : 24 watt x 4 ( 8 hours a day )

Ferts : to be added soon ... not sure what to add ? any advise ?

    did a rescape today 9th Jan 2008 :

shifted the sagataria all to right

trimmed the glosso and made them alot shorter and spread out

added back the larger dw but this time behind it , tied with spiky moss

added some moss balls ( for some dark green )

shifted some cyferus helferi to the left side of the dw .

i think it looks a bit better now ... now dosing liquid ferts , i just crossing my fingers and hope it turns out nice . sorry for the ***** net there ... forgot to remove when taking pic

    >.<

You should spread out the HG instead planting in chunks.

bro maybe you can combine the 2 DW to make it into one big piece.

another point is that the tank is too green, maybe add some red plants, maybe some red ludwigia / rotalas or even a red tiger lotus on the right midground

    yeap!

as i feel that the lone DW in the tank doesn't feel in place. it's too small and the shape looks like "left 4 dead'' logo

jokes aside, i think it would be nice to join all of them together to form a bigger and strong hardscape with your tank

I first put all the plants in groups, so this very mixed and confusing ....
then worked the 2 trunks, as if to form a so ...
I think some of the plants chosen are not ideal for the aquarium

Maybe you can do the following:

    1. Put back the second driftwood.
    2. reorganize the plants, those cyperus helferi and place them closer to the DW.
    3. If you are putting glosso and HG as foreground. Alternate the planting. Your HG are too much in a bunch. 3-4 strands per bunch will be enough. For glosso, cut them in a pair of leaflets each. And plant them leaving just the leaf showing. You need glosso let me know.

Planting more during cycling is ok. But afterwhich, you would need space for plants to grow.

Ya,bro. Don't be discouraged. First of all, it's newly planted. It'll need sometime to look more natural. Give it a few months, see what you think by then. Still not happy, then only try a little of rearranging. That's what I'm doing now. Patience....

    Bro,

I used to trim my C Helferi from the mid or near the tips (a haircut) but the cuttings will turn brown and made this simply beautiful plant ugly
Now, I cut the leaves from the base. You can see new leaves growing.
However, it's very difficult to trace the leaf you're cutting to the base, if like me, you have 10 stalks of it and your tank is 2 feet in depth

hi, do u use a canister filter or an internal filter?

cos i'm currently going low tech with using an internal filter.. i think it's kinda strong.
