Cory Habrosus in my planted tank

Bought 6 of the abovementioned corys 2 days ago. Just 1 prob - My other fishes kept getting to the food (Tetra TabiMin) before the corys. This is what i have in my tank :

6x Golden Pencilfish
4x Brown / Rocket-tail Pencilfish
4x Oto
4x White Cloud
1x Golden Ram (the rounder type)
3x Guppy

Do you think they will be fine in my tank? Or should i get ready to start another tank (1ft, low light) just for my corys?

Shouldn't be a problem. Just toss in one more tablet for them at a different location. Seems to work for me.

my corys doesn't seem to be interested in the TabiMin...wonder why?

My corys havent got a chance to get near the tab yet ... My ram (probably cos the rest always beat it to the flakes) will guard the piece fiercely until it is full ... After that, the golden pencils, otos and guppies move in ...

My corys are so timid that they'll "hop" away if the a bee shrimp (1cm) swam pass their resting spot ... Contemplating getting a 1ft tank (with cover), sprinkle a thin layer of gravel and add some smooth stones (and maybe a few tied with moss) ... Hope i'll have the patience to wait n see if the situation will improve.

generally only the bottom feeders and shrimp will touch the food
the other fish can't see for nuts

theo, get a 1 footer for them if u can. they do better in such tanks. u can keep them in a shady tank with some hideaways. they usually feed when nobody's watching. tablet food seems to be a lil too big for them to eat so i feed them with live tubifex and micro pellets. anything small enough for their small mouths. and another thing, these small dwarf corydoras are really afraid of anything that is bigger than they are and that includes shrimp.

i have mine swimming happily with an army of yamato shrimp
no issues there

After seclusion for couple of weeks, placed RAM back into the main tanks. Within days start pecking anyone who go nears sinking food.

As DEA mentioned, off the light and the Cory get the foods undisturbed. Funny observation is the the RAM will stop aggressive behaviour in dim light condition. I believe he can still see probably shadows to him but is quite clear for me.

Since i'm planning to get my CO2 set (using DIY now) on Sunday, I'll make the decision there n then - And hope tat my mum wun blow her top when she sees me carrying a tank home

Good news is that they are still schooling ard happily when the lights r on

Bad news is that my tank is infested with snails at the moment and i'm removing tens of them every nite (damn tiring) ... Cant put in a dwarf puffer to help control snail population cos it will kill my tiny corys []

Qn : if i am to get a 1ft tank for my corys, should i get a filter? Or will a thin layer of gravel (1cm) + airpump + airstone be sufficient? Will most likely be changing 20-30% of the water per week.

a thin layer of gravel, preferably fine smooth pea gravel will suit them fine. u could get an Eden 316 or any small filter for the tank. i've kept mine with a small powerhead and they love the currents. feed them tubifex and they'll go crazy. provide a hiding place for them. for example, a clay pot or some cave-like thingy. and perhaps some java fern tied to a piece of driftwood. i'm setting up a 2 footer to house a family of dwarf corys soon.

Well, i'll just blame it on weak will pwr - Just placed an order for a 18" x 9" tank (would have gotten something bigger if not of space contraints)
