    Hi all,

my friend gave me a plastic bag of goldfish that she said she bought for 2 bucks. There is about ten inside. I understand they are meant for other fishes to eat!! But since she gave them to me, I had to put them in my tank which is 45 cm long by 20 cm wide and 60 cm high and only contains 3 guppies and 2 suckers. Anyway 4 goldfishes and a guppy died. And someone told me to throw the goldfishes away but of cos I will never do such a cruel thing.

Anyway after that long story, all I want to know if its true that such cheap goldfishes should not be mixed with fish that cost more as they have all reached the end of their lifespan and are sick (thats why cheap). If that is the case, I will put them separately.

Even though the are cheap and maybe sick, I still want them to live very happily.

Any tips will be great! Thanks
    Ron

Those feeder goldfishes are culls from fancy goldfish spawns, ie they didn't quite make the standard. That doesn't necessary mean that they are sick. However, feeders are usually kept in less than ideal and stressful conditions which promotes disease.

In your case, it could be anything; ammonia poison due to the sudden increase in bioload, improper acclimatization etc and without more details, all I can say is that your tank dimension is very unusual.

Hi Ron, its very thoughtful of you. Maybe this also means you get the chance to convince your family to get another fish tank to house the fish separately!!

Ck You really know your tanks. My tank is actually 39 cm long, 40 cm high and 21 cm in width...

And Benny, the goldfishes (left only 4 now) are living in their own little tank.
