I set up my 3 ft tank 3 weeks ago and added 10 bloodfins, who adapted quickly to the water with no problems. I slowly added 20+cardinals and 4 corys over the next 2 weeks and found this morning that a couple of bloodfins jumped out of the tank in the night. I did not observe anything wrong with any of the fishes, except I changed the water and cleaned the filter media for the first time yesterday. What could be the reason? Hope no more fishes jump today!

The waterchange, and the washing of filter may have altered the water parameters in your tank eg. PH etc. Such a sudden change would stress the fish out, and i guess some of your bloodfins decided to destress by taking the plunge. Ive experienced this too when i first started. Sorry for your loss.

thanks. so far no further casualties and its the first time i experience "flying fishes" after water change having set up a number of tanks in the past. Did some research and found out that bloodfins have a tendency to jump during courting stage as well!
