I was thinking of transferring my cuban cichlid to my 4 ft tank to realise my CA cichlid community. Any suggestions for tankmates? Already have a senegal birchir as a tankmate.

    my plan:
    -cuban
    -Green terror
    -loisellei
    -argentea

    birchirs:
    -2 senegal
    -2 endlicheri
    -2 ornate

But these are still in the planning stage, I know my 4 footer is not big enough.

    Thanx[]

it is difficult to answer your question, since you already know that the tank is too small.

What i can just say is that if you are going to place all your fish in the 4 ft tank, and even when they dont fight, they will not be able to grow to a good size, which is a huge chunk of the appeal of such fish gone..

the 4 cichlids you have in your list are all fiesty fish. cuban i predict will be the worst and green terror the least aggressive.....Generally speaking, that is. You have to try to really find out.

    Hmm
maybe recreating the biotope is more fun.
How about me getting a cuban female and 3-4 silver dollars
    and maybe 1-2 plecos.
Where can i get a female cuban?
How should the cuban cichlid's biotope look like?

    Ideas?

Fishboy, if you talk about recreating the biotope of the cuban, both the silver dollars and the plecos should not be there, because they do not exist in nature together.

Cuban cichlid (Cichlasoma "Nandopsis" Tetracanthus), as its name suggests, actually comes from the island of Cuba. As for living environment, they are generally widespread and found in many diversed settings.

I will suggest a simple layout with outcrops of rocks and some wood (not rock wall as in some african tanks) . Use finer gravel so that they will not trap debris. If you want to have plants, use hardy plants like java fern. SHould be easy to set up.

Skydevil, in this case, actually the small tank size helps. It is crowded and the fish cannot move around properly and have a good sense of personal space. THus they cannot establish clear territories. If you move them to a larger tank, things may get worse.

and of coz, your friend's case if not unique. there are many examples out there. But not recommended, because they fish are not given proper space to grow and behave naturally.
